DAY 4 OF 4

A New Destination

Matthew once lived in a beautiful home, a clear sign of his wealth as a tax collector. It was the center of his old, filled with memories he would rather forget. When his father hands him the key in this episode, Matthew hesitates. He says, “I’ll never live in that house again.” He wants nothing to do with the loneliness, compromise, and injustice that shaped his past.

His father encourages him, “You’ll find a new purpose for it.”

A new purpose.
The old has passed.
Something new is coming.
And all of it is God’s work.

Paul describes this reality in 2 Corinthians 5: when someone is in Christ, that person becomes a new creation. The old is gone, and the new has come – and it is all from God, who reconciles us to Himself through Jesus.

That truth is incredibly freeing, yet we still carry our stories with us; our personalities, experiences, resources, and the rest. The question we must ask ourselves is: What do we do with what we have now that we belong to Jesus?

Matthew’s story gives us an example. Instead of rejecting his past entirely, he offers what he has to Jesus. His house becomes a place for ministry.

What if the same could happen in your life with your home, your talents, your relationships, your resources, your time?

What if all of it could find a new purpose in the hands of Jesus?

Being a “new creation” does not mean pretending the past never happened; it means placing everything in your life into Jesus’ care and saying, “Use this for Your kingdom.”

Reflection Questions

  • Where do you see signs of “newness” in your life because of Jesus?
  • Is there something in your life God is bringing to mind that could be used for His kingdom?
  • What concrete step can you take to offer it to Him?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You that in You everything becomes new. I place my life, my gifts, my story, and all that I have into Your hands. Give each part a new purpose, and let it be used for Your glory. Amen.
