How to Keep a Peaceful Conscience?Sample

No feast satisfies us when we are downcast. A pleasure trip, meeting friends, a special meal, or new clothes do not bring us joy when we are troubled. The only thing we want is to be alone and cry. The proverb says: “… Who can bear a crushed spirit?” Proverbs 18:14. “Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs him down”, Proverbs 12:25. There is no remedy for a person with a troubled conscience, a broken spirit, or a troubled soul: “A broken spirit saps a person’s strength”, Proverbs 17:22 (NLT). So, what can we do to regain inner peace? Start by examining your spiritual life. Sin torments the conscience! Take a look at Saul. The sin he didn’t want to abandon was the sole cause of his emotional imbalance. He said: “… I am in great distress… God has departed from me. He no longer answers me… And Samuel said: … The Lord… is your enemy… because you disobeyed him…”, 1 Samuel 28:15-17 (BAD, NLT). Saul was at war with himself because he was at war with God. Until we raise the white flag of surrender, our conscience will not have peace. Sin is like Jonah causing the storm. Throw it overboard, and you will see how your spirit is calmed!
