Key 3: Compassion and Empathy

If there is one thing that is important when it comes to the winning of souls for God’s Kingdom, then that’s compassion and empathy for the lost. It’s not about the number of souls you bring in for Jesus, it’s about you loving them with the same love as Jesus loves them.

Look at how our Master was moved with compassion, how He had attention for the broken. For people who were weary and scattered, bound or sick: fully love and compassion.

Jesus’ love and compassion are the keys to having a heart for the world. God loves everyone so much that He doesn’t want people to perish (2 Peter 3:9). That’s why He did such an enormous act of love: He gave us His only begotten Son so that anyone who believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16). Jesus finds us so valuable that He redeemed us with His blood.

This incredible love of God we may learn to translate to our own lives. From that love and compassion that God has for us all, we may reach out to the lost.

“For I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me… And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’” Matthew 25:35-36, 40

This Bible passage shows how you can show compassion and have empathy for others. So you don’t do that by judging the lost but by being there, helping, comforting, and encouraging. By going that extra mile, sharing food, giving clothes, giving a smile, and embracing. Yes, that is how you do God a great pleasure.
