Before Disaster Strikes: Hearing God’s Warnings Early

DAY 3 OF 3

Day 3: Pursuing Our Will Over God’s Leads to Danger

In this final reading, we see that Balaam’s journey represents the tension between obeying God and pursuing personal desires. He knew God’s command not to curse Israel, but the allure of Balak’s rewards made him stray. The angel of the Lord confronts Balaam, calling his path “reckless.” Pursuing our will over God’s can lead to danger and destruction, but God in His mercy tries to stop us before it’s too late.

In our lives, we often face similar temptations to pursue what seems rewarding but isn’t in line with God’s will. Like Balaam, we can become blind to the dangers ahead. But God’s mercy is persistent—He keeps trying to get our attention, sometimes through drastic or unexpected means.

Reflection Question:

Are there any ambitions or desires you’re pursuing that may be in conflict with God’s will? Are you willing to surrender them?

Prayer:

Lord, I submit my plans and desires to You. Help me to recognize when my path is not aligned with Yours, and give me the strength to surrender fully to Your will. Amen.
