Finding the Real Jesus in the Music of ChristmasSample

I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day
This carol was written in 1864, but the lyrics cry of our current culture as well. This song reminds us that though life is bleak, though “the hate is strong” and “there is no peace on earth,” Jesus is still in control.
There are certainly times when all we feel we can do is hang our heads and weep for our world. But on the darkest night, in the most troubling of circumstances, there are evidences that God reigns and there WILL be peace on earth. The bells on Christmas day remind us when they proclaim, “God is not dead, nor doth he sleep.” He remains in constant control. We are not guaranteed peace in this life. In fact, Jesus promised we would have trouble in this life. But He also promised a glorious eternity with God.
Let our hearts not be troubled by the world we live in. Let us instead look and listen for those reminders of Jesus’ eminent return.

About this Plan

It is easy to get caught up in all that the Christmas season offers. All the activities, celebrations, and tasks - even the good things - can overshadow Christmas' true meaning. This devotional will take the wonderful music of the season and use it to point back to the real meaning, the real Jesus.
