Celebrating a Savior-Centered ChristmasSample
Day 2
As parents, we have a responsibility to make sure what we say and do always shows reference to God. And one of the ways to do this is by having a Savior-centered Christmas. Santa and God have a lot in common: they’re both omnipresent, give gifts that love to be gotten, have supernatural powers, and are the motivation for good behavior, but one is make-believe, and one is our Savior! But there’s a good reason we are drawn to fairytales and fantasy: we were made for Heaven, not our present reality. And while Santa and elves are magical, at the end of the day, they are pretend. Whereas Jesus’ angels can imbue a similar sense of magic and yet are very much real. Getting children excited about the true spiritual realm and our citizenship in Heaven both enlivens the season and gives glory to God.
During the month of December, you can make it a point to read Scripture – both the Old Testament prophecies and the New Testament fulfillment of the birth of Christ. Pray with your children and ask the Lord to help you deeply feel the spirit of a Savior-centered Christmas.
