Holy Spirit - Breath of GodSample
THE HOLY SPIRIT
And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life. he proceeds from the Father and the Son, and with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified. — NICENE CREED
“The Holy Ghost … is of one substance, majesty, and glory with the Father and the Son, very and eternal God.” — ANGLICAN 39 ARTICLES OF FAITH
- “The” is an article that stresses the uniqueness of the Holy Spirit; there are many spirits but one Holy Spirit.
- “Holy” emphasises the Spirit of Christ as separate and divine. We can’t make demands of him; he makes demands of us.
- “Spirit” comes from the Hebrew word ruach or the Greek word pneuma, both of which mean “wind” or “breath”. Like the wind, the person of the Holy Spirit cannot be controlled or predicted. “
To be born again, or born of the Spirit, is to become a follower of Jesus. The Holy Spirit is the greatest gift we can receive in this life! For when we accept Jesus and receive the Holy Spirit, God dwells with us and in us! When we receive the Holy Spirit, we are given new desires to grow in holiness and we receive power and gifts to fulfil the Great Commission of Jesus.
“Pray daily for a great outpouring of the Spirit on the Church and on the world. This is the grand need of the day – it is the thing that we need far more than money, machinery, and men.” — J.C. RYLE, THE PERSON AND WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
As you read the Scriptures reflect on how the Holy Spirit is a gift to be enjoyed but also God and therefore cannot be controlled.
