The best gift.

It's been one of those busy weeks and you've found yourself in a pinch, shopping to find a last-minute gift for your friend's birthday dinner. Trying to make it on time, you wait to pull up to the restaurant, scrambling while looking for a pen to sign the card and almost frantically stuffing down the gift bag with tons of tissue paper. Guilty. I can't tell you how many times that's happened. I know, it's just me, and not you right? Yet, all of the rush melts away, once you see your friend celebrating, full of joy, greeting you with the biggest hug, happy to see that you've come.

But what's most rewarding, is not the thoughtful heartfelt words you wrote in their card, or that most beautiful meaningful present. It's you. Because that's who they've been waiting for.

When was the last time you just spent time with the Lord as just sons and daughters? No striving, no contending, just you coming to be still before Him. This time, try placing all your petitions to the side for just a moment and simply offer up this one thing: your heart. Encounter the Lord in all of His delight and let Him lavish His love upon you.

I love the Psalm of David where he spends his time meditating on how great God's thoughts are toward him and how God sees him.

How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How vast is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand; When I awake, I am still with You. Psalm 139:17-18

Prayer Prompt: Today, ask the Lord what are His thoughts toward you. When He made you, what plans did He have in mind? Write it down, begin to declare that over yourself, and encounter the restoration of His words wash over you.
