The Angel Said, “Do Not Be Afraid”
If the angels in the Bible look like the ones we see on TV shows, movies, Hallmark cards, or hovering above the roof of the manger in a Christmas nativity scene, then why do they tell people, “Do not be afraid,” when they suddenly appear? Angels don't look scary. Perhaps we don’t fully understand what an angel looks like. Maybe we've learned to rely on our own imagination. And perhaps we get so distracted by what angels look like that we miss what makes them so important: their intended purpose.
At a very basic level, angels were not made in God's image. Of everything God created, humans were the only thing He designed in His image. But that doesn’t mean that angels don’t have a purpose. They do...and it's critical when it comes to spiritual warfare.
Their purpose is to fight for YOU and ME! When I was younger, there was a show called Angel Wars. It was super cheesy but legit. This animated show depicted how angels fight for us daily in the real world. Hebrews tells us that angels are supposed to help followers of Jesus. They live in the spiritual realm yet protect us within our physical space. As we mentioned yesterday, you and I aren't not fighting the enemy's tricks alone. We have an army of angels battling for us and with us, even when we can't see or feel them.
Not only were angels created to help us, but they were also created to worship God. In Revelation, we see that the worshipping God face to face. One day, when Jesus returns, unifying the heavenly and early realms, those who follow Christ, will be joined with the angels, and together we will worship the King of Kings.
Question to Ponder:
How have angels or spiritual beings helped or fought for you on your journey with God?
About this Plan

Spiritual Beings is part two of this four-part series designed to help you understand spiritual warfare and its impact on our lives. The series dives into topics like the spiritual realm (heaven and earth), spiritual beings (like angels, demons, and Satan), spiritual warfare (the what and how of it), and finally, the Armor of God (how we stand against the devil's schemes). In part two, we unpack the idea of Spiritual Beings like angels and demons while also looking at Satan and how he is the major adversary against God and His people!
