Wait. Demons are real…?

Yes...but there's no need to freak out. Remember the last three days? Three things are true.

1. God is the King of Kings.
2. Angels are fighting for you.
3. We know that God wins.

But that doesn’t mean we can ignore the idea of evil spiritual forces influencing us because that is the reality of our world. Evil exists, and we can't sit on the sidelines as passive spectators, waiting for God and His angels to do all the work. We have to join in the battle.

We've learned that angles are fighting for us. But who are they fighting? They're fighting demons and the forces of evil. Demons are angelic beings who chose to follow Satan when he was cast out of Heaven by God. They made a choice (and spoiler, they chose the wrong side). We know that God wins, and demons know it too. They also know God is more powerful than they are, but that knowledge doesn't stop them. They work on behalf of Satan, causing chaos and destruction. Like angels, we can't see demons because they are in the spiritual realm, but we can feel their impact.

Take the story in Mark, where Jesus sends a legion (a large group) of evil spirits into a herd of pigs. Their response to Jesus was a result of their fear of His power. They knew that Jesus was and is more powerful than they are. James tells us, “You believe in God? Good for you. So do the demons.” Demons know they are fighting a losing battle, and that scares them.

That is why, many times, demons are actually scared of us. They get scared when we stand and proclaim Jesus over our lives. They tremble in fear when we call on the name and the power of Jesus. We stand on the winning side of the war. Even though it’s not done yet, we can proclaim the victory here and now over any spiritual being who stands against us!

How can you remind yourself that even though there is an enemy, you don’t have to fear because of who you follow?
