Built to Last: A Strong Family in Church PlantingSample

FAITH
Ministry families face unique emotions and pressures, so nothing is more important than our children understanding the core of our faith. Sometimes unconsciously it becomes tempting to put our faith in the ministry. But our faith is not in the ministry. Our faith is in Jesus. No one can pay you to be a man of God. No one can pay you to be a woman of God. Many tasks in the ministry don’t require holiness or anointing. No, we must choose daily to walk closely with Jesus, which can never be taken away from us.
In the same way, our participation in the ministry does not ensure that our children will truly know Him. God has no grandchildren, and no matter what you and I accomplish for him, each of our children must reckon with God for their salvation. We can’t prevent the pressures other people put on our families, but there should only be one motivation for righteous living: our love for the Lord. Not to satisfy the eyes and standards of other people as pastors, simply because we are believers. Our expectations of our family should be no higher and no lower than those God expects of every Christ follower.
Our number one goal as ministry parents is to instill a deep love of Jesus and his word in our children. We want to foster an atmosphere of his presence in our homes and our lives so they know his voice and respond to it.
