The third chapter of John’s Gospel ends with a sentence (3:36) similar to the better-known 3:16. Returning to this important message of belief in the one and only Son also happens in the person of Nicodemus. Flick forward to John 19 and reflect upon why the religious leader who came to Jesus at night is mentioned again. Perhaps this return to Nicodemus shows how longstanding knowledge about God, tradition, and Scripture can crystallize into sincere belief about who Jesus is and the Salvation He offers us all.
