DAY 15 OF 21

SPIRITUAL BLESSINGS

Luke 10:19

Did you know that when we accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour, we didn’t just receive forgiveness from our sins and a golden ticket to get to heaven when we pass away from this life. We were blessed with many spiritual blessings including power and authority! Many believers are ignorant of what we carry and struggle through the Christian walk because we don’t understand who we are in Christ. God has provided us with everything that we need to fight the spiritual battles that we face on a daily basis however, due to us not always spending enough time reading, praying and studying God’s word, we walk around in ignorance – often very burdened with life’s problems. When life is good, sometimes we forget God, just fellowshipping with Him once a week but living our lives the rest of the week like he does not exist. But when we are presented with situations that we cannot handle, we cry out to God (as our last resort), pleading with him to help us out of the situation. Sometimes He will come through really quickly and deliver us from the situation but other times, he will let us keep going around the same problem – why is that? Because in His word he has told us that he has given us power and authority. That means instead of us moaning and crying about our circumstances, we are to use the tools our spiritual blessings that He has blessed us with to help us deal with the situations that we face. Without having an understanding of the tools that we carry, the tools are of no use to us because we don’t know how to use them. So, what is power? In simple terms, having power means you have the ability to do something. It means ruling over your circumstances and not being a victim of your circumstances. It involves you being the head and not the tail and using your right to rule over any situation that you face.

Authority means that you have the right to direct or control something or someone. It also means: You have the right to command or act. You have the right to rule, the right and power to enforce laws. The right to demand and obtain obedience. This was God’s original plan for man as we read in Genesis 1:27-28, that God made us in His image and that we should ‘have dominion over the earth’. To help us understand power and authority better, I will use the analogy of a policeman directing traffic. When the officer raises his hand for you to stop, he does not have the power to stop your car but he has authority. The laws of the land backs his authority and so that is why we adhere to the policeman’s instruction. Just like the policeman has been given power and authority by the law of the land, the power and authority given to us by God in the spirit is even greater. We are heirs of Jesus Christ which means that through Him, we are able to exercise the same power and authority as He did to speak to situations and see them resolved. The thing we must be mindful of is that to be successful in exercising our power and authority, we must ensure that our hearts are clean! That we are sanctified, this position in the realms of the spirit activates our power and authority. This means letting go of bitterness, unforgiveness and other things not pleasing to God. We have to remain in close fellowship with God at all times.

As we draw close to him, he will draw closer to us and through the help of the Holy Spirit, if we ask Him to guide us in using our spiritual power toolbox properly, He will show us and in due time we will overcome the challenges that life throws at us – in Jesus Name.
