The Secret Place: 21 Day DevotionalSample

SPIRITUAL GIANTS
2 Peter 1:3
The power and authority we have, has been given to us by the Almighty God. To be in the secret place gives us confidence in whose power and authority we stand in, and in the spiritual realm we are giants. Colossians 2: 8 says “He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in Him.“ Now that we have an understanding of power and authority, we must be mindful not to confuse these two words. Some people use them interchangeably like they are one and the same thing, but they are not – especially when we compare the kingdom of darkness with the kingdom of light. Although we don’t like to think about it, Satan does have power and at times that power can feel overwhelming – especially when he throws a challenge our way – it can feel like we have been winded in the stomach and have no capacity to fight back - but we do! Satan’s power may seem mighty, but we must remember that he has no authority over us because we are believers in Christ. That means when he throws that impossible situation our way, instead of giving into hopelessness, we are to lift our hands and hearts and open our mouths and speak God’s Word. Of course, the enemy knows this, and he doesn’t want us to be consistently in God’s Word. He will use the same old tactics to distract us from prioritising the time spent in the secret place. Continually trying to intimidate us with lies and deceive us into thinking that he has authority over us. He did it at the beginning in the garden of Eden and also to Jesus in the wilderness. Always trying to create a chasm between us and God ultimately through sin.
Brothers and sisters, we must ensure that we know whose power and authority that we are standing in. We must not take the story of Christ’s death and resurrection as just a mere story that we’ve heard preached in church and celebrate once a year by observing Easter. It is a REAL event that happened and because of His great love for us, Jesus destroyed satan’s rule over sin and death. This means God gave Jesus the ultimate authority and He has placed ALL things under the authority of Christ. In turn He has given us that same power and authority which is recognised in the realms of the spirit so that we will indeed do greater things than He did. Our faith walk in Christ is no joke and to be real spiritual giants we must live in the light of God’s truth and to remain sanctified and consecrated to God. The enemy will try long and hard to hinder our relationship with Jesus and get us to ignore the authority that we have in Him. For us to gain access to the authority which comes through having a genuine relationship with Christ – not just turning up to church on a Sunday and attending the odd prayer call when we feel led - we must abide in Him at ALL times.
To abide means to dwell, to align our thoughts and choices with God’s. It means connecting with Him and honouring Him in everything that we do – the big and the small things.
