Reading With the People of God #12 - the Good Life

DAY 29 OF 30

Behold Your King

II Kings 6:24-7:2 describes horrendous scenes. God spoke through Deuteronomy 28:49-57 and said this would happen when the people of God rejected His leadership.

Turning to the Matthew passage, God has come to earth, in Jesus, to lead people to Himself. The crowds stood in awe and wondered if, indeed, He was the promised son of David, but He was rejected by those who were their religious leaders.

Jesus told the people they could recognize Him by His fruit and the good and mighty acts He displayed. Yet the religious leaders set themselves up as His adversaries and chose to reject Him. They stated that His good evidence was coming from the Evil One. Jesus said rejecting Him and attributing His good works to Satan was blaspheming the Holy Spirit, from which His evidence came; for this, there was no help.

The II Kings 6 passage was a cautionary tale for those who reject evidence of their God and refuse His leadership in their lives. Jesus cautioned those who rejected Him of a severe judgment, seen in 70 AD when Jerusalem and the temple were destroyed and Israel disseminated.
