Reading With the People of God #12 - the Good LifeSample

The Choice to Receive or Reject
God’s word and His provision are always at work, but how we respond determines what we experience.
In 2 Kings 7:3-20, four lepers stumble upon an incredible gift—an abandoned enemy camp filled with food and riches. Israel’s salvation was right before them, yet within the city, some refused to believe it. The king hesitated, suspecting a trap, and the royal officer mocked the idea outright. He saw the miracle with his own eyes but never tasted it.
Jesus’ parable of the sower in Matthew 13:1-23 describes a similar reality. The word of God is sown freely, but not all receive it. Some hearts are like the rocky or thorny soil—hearing but never truly believing. Others, like good soil, receive the word with faith and bear fruit.
Both passages reveal a choice: Will we receive what God has spoken, trusting Him even when it seems unlikely? Or will we resist, holding onto doubt, fear, or pride?
As you read, reflect on your own heart.
Is it open and ready to receive what God is offering? What might be keeping you from trusting His word fully?

At Cornerstone Church of Chowchilla, a small town in California’s Central Valley, we believe God is doing big things through His Word. Though our town may be small, we are convinced that God has called us to spark a movement of His people reading and growing in His Word together.

About this Plan

This is the twelfth installment of a Bible reading plan following the lectionary pattern, offering daily readings from the Psalms, Old Testament, and New Testament. Each day includes a devotional primer to help prepare your heart and mind for a deeper, more meaningful encounter with Scripture. While this plan is designed to align with Holy Week in April, it can be used at any time, though it will be most relevant during that season.
