Untold Stories: Remembering the Faithfulness of God

DAY 7 OF 10

Untold Stories

I love the story of Zechariah and Elizabeth and how their ordinary story becomes extraordinary as it is intertwined with the birth of Jesus. In Luke 1, we see the story play out. Zechariah and Elizabeth are living with the shame of having no children—despite him being a priest and serving the Lord regularly. On an ordinary day, he is visited by an angel during his duties in the temple, and he is given a clear word that his barren wife will in fact become pregnant with a son. He DOES NOT believe this word and becomes mute. However, his wife, Elizabeth, does become pregnant and has a son that they name John. John the Baptist subsequently prepares the way for the greatest ministry the earth has ever seen through Jesus Christ.

When the angel comes to Elizabeth’s cousin, Mary, to tell her that she, as a virgin, will also bear a son, he mentions that Elizabeth is pregnant with a son too. After telling her what God has done, the angel then says in verse 37: “For the word of God will never fail.” The book of Luke then goes on to show how the world is forever changed by Jesus, and we see the ancient and current words of God fulfilled through His ministry on earth.

The Bible itself is full of these small stories of seemingly ordinary people with great testaments of God’s faithfulness to them. If you scroll on your social media or turn on your streaming service, there are so many more of these “untold stories” being highlighted right now. In many cases, the story shows how the person’s trust in God sustained them. At that time, their situation may have seemed insignificant, but so often, their stories played into a larger picture beyond their imagination. Their choice in that moment to trust God’s hand and His plans changed a part of history!

But you do not have to look to Netflix for the newest untold story—your neighbor, coworker, or the person sitting right beside you likely has one too. It’s the person who believed for a child for years despite only seeing loss, but now has four rambunctious children! It’s the person who grew up in a broken family or was in and out of foster care but is now raising their own children in a healthy home. It’s the person who suffered through a dark moment of illness, only now to be living healthy with a medically unexplainable healing. Every time each story points us back to Him!

What are the untold stories of your life? How has He shown you His faithfulness, goodness, favor, and grace in the darkest moments of your life? Are you living that moment right now? Remember—it’s the untold stories that become the current testament for the next generation—the testament of who He was, is, and is to come!

Pray this prayer with me:

God, thank you for every moment we have lived and will live differently because You are present with us, in the seen and the unseen. Remind us that we know the living God, who is faithful and powerful to do even what seems impossible! We will choose to trust You!
