Untold Stories: Remembering the Faithfulness of GodSample

Drawing a Line
As the Israelites were coming out of Egypt after 430 years of slavery, they struggled to let go of their idolatry and fully trust in God. In fact, the generation that God wanted to use to enter the Promised Land was disqualified for their lack of belief in the report of the Lord. They were stranded in a sort of limbo for 40 years until the days when Joshua became the leader. The Lord used the next generation to go into the Promised Land and see His word come to pass. Right before it was time to take possession of the land, Joshua gave one more speech. In that speech, he implored the Israelites to choose today whom they will serve, either the gods of the Amorites or the gods of their fathers. Then Joshua states one of the most powerful worship statements in all of Scripture in verse 15: “But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
Today we are surrounded by opportunities to turn our hearts away from God. We too can believe reports of doubt, and skepticism, and harden our hearts toward the words of God. On the other hand, we also have the opportunity to join the heroes of our faith and decide that as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord—we will believe His report. We can decide that we will have the faith to believe that every promise the Lord has made, we will lay hold of and believe.
Pray this prayer with me:
Lord, give me faith to believe Your word and Your promises for my life and my family. Let me draw a line and cover my family in prayer. I declare today, like Joshua, that as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord!
