A Brighter Future: A 5-Day DevotionalSample

Day 2 — The nature of God
As a contemporary of Isaiah and Hosea, Micah prophesied during the turbulent years leading up to Israel’s fall to the Assyrian Empire in 722 BC. In the closing verses of his book, after warning of judgment, Micah looks ahead to restoration—not because of anything the people have done, but because of who God is. Micah points to God’s mercy, His compassion, steadfast love, and faithfulness as the bedrock of hope. The future for Israel and Judah was secure, not through their own efforts, but through God's unchanging character and nature. And so is ours.
At 19 years old, Krittiyaporn from rural northern Thailand holds tightly to that same hope. She is a young woman filled with determination and a deep desire to build a better future through education. Raised by her single mother, life was never easy, but love, encouragement, and the support of Compassion's local church partner gave her the foundation to dream big. After high school, she earned a scholarship to university to study psychology but faced unexpected setbacks: a language barrier, a lack of guidance on how to move forward academically, and the emotional weight of navigating city life alone.
Despite these challenges, Krittiyaporn’s faith remained her anchor. With her Compassion mentor Kanlaya’s support and God’s Word as her guide, Krittiyaporn clung to her faith. “I always remembered what Kanlaya said: to trust in God, wait on Him and He will help me.”
Now preparing to reapply to university, Krittiyaporn faces the future with renewed strength. Her story reminds us that detours and delays don’t derail God’s plan. Life doesn’t always unfold as expected, but God remains constant, yesterday, today, and forever.
Micah found hope in the steadfast love God showed to the forefathers, Abraham and Jacob, and trusted that same love would one day restore Israel and Judah. And it did. That same faithful God holds our future in His hands. The compassion, mercy, and grace He’s shown throughout history remain true for us today. Our future is bright and our hope is secure because God is who He says He is and He will do what He has promised.
Reflection question
What does God think about my future?
