Day 5 — He is our brighter future

Every good story has an ending. Some bring resolution and satisfaction, others leave us with questions or a longing for more. And some endings point to a greater story still unfolding. As we look at our world today with its wars, famines, disasters, and deep divisions, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, discouraged, and helpless. The brokenness can seem too great, the darkness too deep. But no matter how things appear, we are a people who live with hope, because we know how the story ends.

Monica’s early life was marked by unimaginable pain. As the eldest of seven children living in an abusive home, she endured violence, fear, and abandonment. But when she bravely confided in the staff at her local Compassion centre, everything changed. The church acted swiftly, rescuing her and her siblings, ensuring safety and walking with them through deep trauma and into a new beginning.

Monica is no longer defined by the darkness she endured. With the care of her grandmother and the ongoing support of the church, she and her siblings are rebuilding their lives. They’re back in school, receiving daily meals and care, and slowly healing, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. “I’m thankful God placed people in my life to support me,” Monica says. Her dream is to one day open her own beauty salon.

There’s still hardship ahead, but Monica’s life is no longer defined by what was. Instead, it points to what is possible through the love, faith, and hope we have in Jesus. Because of Him, we know this isn’t the end. Every scar will be redeemed. Every tear wiped away. Every broken thing made whole. That’s the ending we cling to—the promise of restoration, the certainty of hope. A brighter future is not just a wish, it’s a promise. And we can face tomorrow with confidence, knowing the Author of our story has already written the most beautiful ending. He is our brighter future.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You that we know how the story ends, not with uncertainty or fear but with the confident hope of redemption. This is not a mystery or a myth but the unshakable truth that because of the Cross, our future is secure. Thank You for the sacrifice of Jesus, who defeated death and overcame all darkness. Now, we live in the light of that victory, waiting with joyful expectation for Your return when You will make all things new. Until that day, help us to walk faithfully with You, partnering in Your work of restoration and hope in our world today. Amen.
