Consider the Lilies

DAY 3 OF 7

Remember

We are called to pause and remember the works of God. Throughout history, God’s people have been instructed to look back and recall his powerful acts. In ancient Hebrew culture, they were trained to look back and recount the works God had done in Israel. This was foundational in their lifestyle of worship. It wasn’t just a routine; it was an elemental aspect of keeping their faith alive and their hearts turned toward him. The tradition of remembrance was passed down from generation to generation, ensuring that God’s faithfulness was not forgotten.

The call to remember is not just a command for those in biblical times. It’s just as relevant for us today. We are urged to remember the works and miracles that have been recorded in Scripture as well as the ways he has moved in our own lives. We should take time to remember them because by nature, we will forget. It’s easy to get caught up in our daily lives and the problems we are currently facing. We get overwhelmed or distracted, and we lose sight of God’s proven faithfulness. Remembering what he’s already done for us is crucial to maintaining our faith and having perseverance through life’s challenges.

When we remember what God has done over time, it removes the anxiety and fear of what he will do in the future. Life is full of uncertainty, and we don’t have any guarantees of what our lives will look like. Steadiness and confidence are found in the unchanging faithfulness of God. We can’t predict the future, but we can absolutely depend on God to carry us through it. He has been there for us in the past, and he will be with us no matter what comes our way. Remembering his previous intervention in our lives reminds us that he is always faithful to fulfill his promises.

Dwelling on God’s faithfulness also reveals his characteristics of love and provision. As we recount all he’s done, we are reminded of his love, mercy, and power. The same God who miraculously split the Red Sea and raised the dead is still moving today. This knowledge gives us confidence and reassures us that we are safe and secure in his arms.
