How We Gave $1 Million (Without Being Rich)Sample

Day 3: Redefining Success
The world tells us to track what we accumulate. We decided instead to measure what we give.
In today's culture, we're obsessed with financial metrics like credit scores, investment returns, and net worth. But what if those aren't the numbers that matter most in God's economy?
Scripture doesn't condemn wealth. But it consistently challenges us to view it as a tool for Kingdom impact rather than personal security.
And you can't manage what you don't measure.
For Linda and me, this meant a radical shift in what we tracked. Instead of focusing primarily on our "net worth," we began tracking our "net given" - a running total of every dollar that flowed through our hands to others.
This simple practice rewired our thinking in profound ways:
- It converted an abstract goal into tangible progress we could see
- It created a small dopamine hit each time we updated the total
- Most importantly, it transformed our identity from accumulators to stewards
I believe your most accurate financial statement isn't your bank balance - it's your giving record.
Our early numbers grew slowly. Our first-year contributions barely made a dent in our million-dollar goal. But consistent giving, increased incrementally, eventually created momentum that surprised even us.
This aligns perfectly with Paul's words in 1 Timothy - by being "generous and willing to share," we were laying hold of "the life that is truly life."
True financial freedom isn't about reaching a specific number; it's about aligning your resources with your deepest values.
So the question isn't "How much do I need?" but "What does God want my life to create?"
When your resources reflect God's values, you don't need to be rich to live richly.
When your financial decisions support your Kingdom mission, money becomes a tool rather than a taskmaster.
Your most meaningful financial breakthrough isn't waiting at some distant milestone. It begins the moment you decide that money will serve God's purpose through you, not define your worth or security.
Let’s pray: Father, help me redefine success according to Your Kingdom values. Give me the courage to measure what matters eternally, not just what the world values. Show me how to track generosity and celebrate each step toward greater Kingdom impact. I surrender my resources and my definition of financial success to You. Use me as a channel of Your abundance, not merely a reservoir.
In Jesus's name, Amen.
Take the next step to grow what God's given you:
