Reading With the People of God #15 Purpose

DAY 26 OF 31

Beauty, Honor, and God’s Design

In Song of Songs 4:1-5:1, we step into an intimate and poetic celebration of love, where each word honors the beauty, dignity, and delight of the beloved. These verses are not just romantic—they reflect the sacredness of love and the purposeful design of human connection. God delights in what is good, pure, and wholehearted.

In 1 Timothy 2–3, Paul turns our attention to how we live and lead in community. From instructions about worship to qualifications for leaders, Paul is not laying down rules for power, but rather offering a vision for order, dignity, and honor within the household of God. Just as love is treated with deep respect in Song of Songs, so too is leadership in the church to be carried out with humility, integrity, and purpose.

Though different in tone and topic, these passages both ask us: Are we living with reverence for what God calls good? Whether in our relationships or responsibilities, God’s purpose is to shape us into people who reflect His heart.

Reflection Question:
How might your love, leadership, or worship today reflect the purpose and honor God intends?

Prayer of Illumination:
Lord, shape my heart to delight in what You delight in. Teach me to honor others, live with integrity, and walk in the purpose You’ve designed for me. As I read Your Word, guide me by Your Spirit into deeper understanding and faithful obedience. Amen.

About this Plan

Reading With the People of God #15 Purpose

This is the fifteenth installment of our Bible reading plan, following a lectionary-style pattern with daily readings from the Psalms, Old Testament, and New Testament. Each day includes a devotional primer to guide your time in God’s Word. This month’s theme is purpose. In Ecclesiastes, we question what truly matters. Song of Songs reveals the purpose of love and relationships. Paul’s letters call us to live with clarity, identity, and mission in Christ. Together, these books invite us to discover God’s purpose—and how it shapes every part of our lives.
