Hope for the Hurting: For the Hurting: Encouragement for Suffering Seasons

DAY 1 OF 15

When life feels hard and frightening, especially when our trials stem from the cruel and unjust acts of others, we might feel abandoned in our sorrow.

Joseph from Genesis 37-50 probably felt that way at times. He experienced numerous soul-crushing injustices. His brothers beat him and sold him into slavery, where he was falsely accused and imprisoned. From a human perspective, he seemed forsaken by God. Yet, numerous times, we read that God was with him.

While we don’t know Joseph’s mental, emotional, or spiritual state during his most painful circumstances, we do see that he developed deep spiritual and emotional maturity and intimacy with God. He also became the Pharaoh’s right-hand man.

We love glorious endings, but let’s not miss the journey. God remained with Joseph for every step, hardship, and ultimate celebration. He never left or abandoned His hope-filled plans for Joseph.

God doesn’t change. He has good planned for us as well, and the darkness we feel today won’t negate that.

~Warmly, Jennifer Slattery

About this Plan

Hope for the Hurting: For the Hurting: Encouragement for Suffering Seasons

When we are hurting or going through a difficult season, we might feel alone and abandoned. It might feel as if God isn't listening to our cries for help or that He doesn't care about our pain. Yet, throughout Scripture God communicates that He is with us, sees us, loves us deeply, empathizes with our pain, and still has good plans for us. He invites us to draw close to Him in times of hardship, receive His comfort, and hold tight to His unchanging truth.
