Unparalleled Parables: Small Stories With Great MeaningSample

The worst feast ever
I’ve mentioned before that I’m Dutch, which means I’m from the Netherlands. (I don’t blame you if you didn’t know that; it’s confusing.).
But what I haven’t told you is the story of how, years before we even met, Cameron visited the Netherlands. It was his first-ever trip outside of India. Until then, all he knew about the West came from movies.
Naturally, he had high expectations.
Being used to Indian hospitality, where a good meal means a lavish spread, Cameron assumed that in the West, the food would be even more extravagant. He imagined Titanic-style buffets at every turn.
So you can imagine his disappointment when, at his very first lunch in the Netherlands, he was handed…a plain cheese sandwich (as a Dutchie, I’m both amused and a little ashamed 🙈).
Cameron probably had something in his mind more akin to the feast Jesus described in the parable of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32).
When the lost son returned home, the father threw a massive celebration. The feast in this parable represents the great, joy-filled banquet God has prepared for His children at the end of time:
“I say to you that many will come from the east and the west, and will take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.” – Matthew 8:11 NIV
When it comes to food, I think God is more Indian than Dutch.😉
But all joking aside, a meal represents community, celebration, and fun. It is practical and personal. And so is our God. He is a Father, eagerly waiting to welcome home His beloved children.
On this mountain, the Lord Almighty will prepare a feast of rich food for all peoples, a banquet of aged wine—the best of meats and the finest of wines. – Isaiah 25:6 NIV
If there is any doubt in your heart about whether or not you will have a seat waiting for you at this feast, if you are not sure whether you are a child of God–saved by grace through faith in Christ, today is the day to reserve your spot!
Pray this prayer:
Dear Lord Jesus, I believe You died for my sins and rose from the dead. I turn from my sins and invite You to come into my heart and life. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. In Your Name, amen.
Hey! You are a Chamatkar.

About this Plan

Jesus often chose to teach through parables for a reason: these simple yet profound stories conveyed deep spiritual truths and timeless life lessons in a way that resonated deeply with His listeners. When we take the time to understand them within their historical and cultural context—hearing them as His original audience would have—we, too, can experience their transformative power.
