Worshiping in the Waiting

The story of Anna, though quiet, is powerful.

Anna lived most of her life as a widow. Alone and often unseen by the world, Anna lived fully present before God. Rather than letting grief or hardship harden her heart, Anna turned her life into an offering. She fasted. She prayed. And she worshiped….day and night.

When we meet Anna in Luke’s Gospel, she is already old. She had spent decades in the women’s court of the temple, never even allowed to enter the inner areas. Still, she showed up. Every single day. She didn’t let limitations keep her from living a life of devotion.

And because of that, Anna didn’t miss Jesus.

In a quiet moment, on what was probably an ordinary day, Anna encountered the Savior she had spent her whole life waiting for. She saw Him for who He truly was, and she responded by speaking that moment out loud. While Simeon kept his joy quiet, Anna couldn’t help but tell everyone around her that the Redeemer had finally come.

Anna became the first person to publicly declare Jesus as the Messiah.

Anna’s faithfulness challenges our modern mindset. It’s easy to believe that waiting seasons are wasted seasons. That we need a platform in order to have influence. That, unless our voices are heard by many, somehow, it doesn’t count.

But God saw Anna.

Not only did He see her, He trusted her with the greatest message the world has ever known.

Waiting doesn’t mean God has forgotten you. And worshiping in the waiting isn’t meant to be a backup plan. Instead, it’s the very posture that prepares your heart to see Jesus clearly.

Anna served with expectation. She wasn’t trying to make something happen; she was staying ready for when God did. Her worship wasn’t dependent on her circumstances, status, or visibility. It was a daily, unseen faithfulness that heaven honored.

Today, let Anna’s life remind you: God still honors the faithful, and He still meets people in the quiet seasons of our lives.

Maybe you’re in a long waiting season. Maybe your prayers have gone unanswered, or your heart is growing weary. Friend, don’t give up. Don’t stop worshiping. Stay in the place where you can still hear His voice.

Because one day, maybe when you least expect it, He’ll show up.

And like Anna, you’ll be ready.

Prayer:

Jesus, I don’t want to miss You. Help me to stay faithful in the waiting, to keep worshiping when it feels quiet, and to trust that You are working even when I can’t see it. Like Anna, I want to be someone who recognizes Your presence and speaks Your truth. Teach me to worship You with my whole life—not just in the big moments, but in the daily unseen ones too. You are worth the wait. In Your Name, Amen.
