Worship More and Worry Less: 30 Days of Praise

DAY 8 OF 30

It’s easy to worship the Lord when our hearts sing and all is well in our little world. But when life gets difficult—when relationships get messy, sickness pervades, or finances run dry—our worship may run dry too. We may look around and see others thriving, people who don’t have a relationship with Jesus—worldly, even evil people may seem to be doing great, and you’re starting to wonder why God is blessing them instead of you.

That’s where we are in today’s reading. Habakkuk (I love his name) cries out to God on behalf of God’s people, asking why the bad guys seem to be blessed. He’s wrestling with the Lord—not literally like Jacob did, but contending for the people. And you know what? Just as the Lord helped David despite David’s angry grief, Jehovah answers Habakkuk’s questions, not with anger or warning, but with graceful wisdom.

The SparkNotes (quick summary) version of God’s answer is that He’s a faithful God. He knows what He is doing. The bad guys will one day get what’s coming, because He is on the throne. He even uses the bad guys for our good. And Habakkuk responded with worship. Listen to these words:

“LORD, I have heard of your fame;

I stand in awe of your deeds,

O LORD.

Renew them in our day,

In our time make them known;

in wrath, remember mercy. (Habakkuk 3:2 NIV)

Habakkuk’s prayer is one of worship, surrender, and petition. Whatever you’re wrestling with today, whatever problems seem to be winning, the answer to it all is worship and trust. He still sits on the throne.

Journal

Write a prayer of worship, simple worship, and trust in His goodness.

About this Plan

Worship More and Worry Less: 30 Days of Praise

When worries won’t stop, and you can’t shake fear of what’s to come. When problem after problem bury your joy, and you find yourself asking, “Where is God?” you, my friend, sit in good company. You are not alone. Grab your coffee. Light a candle. A pen and journal are not essential, but they always deepen time with the Lord. This plan contains short journal prompts after the devotion and scripture reading. Worship invites the healing presence of the Lord. Come lay down your worries.
