Worship More and Worry Less: 30 Days of Praise

DAY 9 OF 30

A long time ago, a college girl sat on a wooden pew in a tiny Methodist church and listened to two women teach about worship. These evangelists taught about worshiping beyond the church walls. Theirs was a form of praise sung while washing dishes, changing dirty diapers, or mowing the lawn. They spoke of praising the Lord when you didn’t feel like it. They also encouraged our small congregation to raise our hands during worship.

That was a biggie. You might be thinking, Isn’t that just for the Pentecostals? Nope. It’s for Methodists, Baptists, Lutherans, and Non-denominational churches, too—all believers. It’s biblical, as you’ll see in today’s scripture. Lifting up hands to the Lord was and is a form of worship.

The college girl sitting in the pews that night was me. I’ve heard a lot of sermons, watched tons of Bible teachers, but I can only recall a handful of those messages. I’ve never forgotten these women. That teaching on worship changed my life. After all those years, I still put it into practice daily. I wish I knew their names, and I could tell them the impact their simple teaching had on my faith.

If you haven’t tried raising your hands during worship, I encourage you to try. Start palms up at your waist if you need to. He’s worthy of our lifted hands because He stretched out His for our salvation. Praise Him with everything you’ve got no matter how you feel. Hallelujah.

About this Plan

Worship More and Worry Less: 30 Days of Praise

When worries won’t stop, and you can’t shake fear of what’s to come. When problem after problem bury your joy, and you find yourself asking, “Where is God?” you, my friend, sit in good company. You are not alone. Grab your coffee. Light a candle. A pen and journal are not essential, but they always deepen time with the Lord. This plan contains short journal prompts after the devotion and scripture reading. Worship invites the healing presence of the Lord. Come lay down your worries.
