When You Wonder WhySample

How Do I Find My Purpose?
“How do I live my life and follow God in today’s world?” -Coban, 16, Tennessee
Have you ever found yourself asking, “What is my purpose?” It’s a big question worth reflecting on.
Many believe their purpose will be found in their career or in some cause they can devote their time and passion to, but the Bible talks about purpose differently. God’s Word tells us that we are made to know God and worship him. All of us are made in God’s image, intended to reflect his goodness and love to one another and the rest of the world.
There are countless ways you might live out that purpose in your life. Some people may be called to a specific career. You could be called into ministry as a pastor or missionary, but you could also be called to be an artist, teacher, entrepreneur, a stay-at-home parent or any other job.
Careers are one of the ways we can honor God and fulfill the purpose we were made for, but careers aren’t the same thing as purpose. No matter what kind of job you have and whether or not it feels like a calling, your purpose of loving God and loving others is the same. If you get married, God calls you to be a faithful spouse. If you have children, God calls you to be a caring parent. Wherever you live, God calls you to love your neighbor as yourself.
In 1 Corinthians 10:31, Paul says everything we do should be done for the glory of God. Every part of our lives should honor the God who created, saved and redeemed us. Take some time today to reflect on your God-given purpose. Pray and ask God to reveal to you his incredible plans for your life.
