Heart of Worship: 30 Days to Deeper PraiseSample

It’s Rock City Worship and today we are bringing you a Scripture from Joshua 6:15–16 (ESV):
“On the seventh day they rose early, at the dawn of day, and marched around the city in the same manner seven times. … And at the seventh time, when the priests had blown the trumpets, Joshua said to the people, ‘Shout, for the Lord has given you the city.’”
When we think of battles, we imagine swords, shields, and strategy. But in Joshua 6, Israel’s greatest weapon wasn’t might—it was faithful obedience. God’s people didn’t conquer Jericho by storming its walls; they conquered it by walking in step with the Word of the Lord. For six days, they circled in silence. On the seventh, they circled seven times—then shouted. Not in defiance, but in faith. And with that shout, the walls crumbled.
Why did God command such a strange strategy? Because He wasn’t just taking down a city—He was training hearts to trust in Him. Jericho was the first city in the Promised Land, and God was making a covenantal point: His people inherit His promises not by power or performance, but by grace through faith (Eph. 2:8–9). Just as Israel’s victory was entirely God’s doing, our salvation is entirely His gift.
This moment in Joshua echoes the deeper story God has been writing since Eden—a story of a God who makes promises, keeps them, and invites His people to trust Him, even when His ways seem foolish to the world. The march around Jericho was a visible, tangible act of obedience. It wasn’t about the ritual; it was about believing and obeying the God who spoke.
We often want the walls in our lives to fall on day one. But what if God is doing more in your waiting than He ever could in your rushing? What if the seventh-day shout is just as much about your heart being formed as your battle being won?
Notice Joshua’s words: “Shout, for the Lord has given you the city.” Not will give—has given. Before the dust was even kicked up from the first step in the march around Jericho, the victory was secure. This is the hope of the gospel. In Christ, the shout has already gone up. The greater Joshua—Jesus—has marched through death, shattered sin’s stronghold, and declared victory on our behalf.
So, keep walking, even when it feels pointless. Keep obeying, even when you don’t understand. Keep trusting, even when the walls haven’t budged. Because your shout of faith doesn’t make the victory happen—it simply responds to what God has already done.
Reflection:
What wall are you waiting on God to bring down? How might He be forming your faith in the circling?
Let your obedience today be a loud yes to a God who always keeps His promises.
