Heart of Worship: 30 Days to Deeper Praise

DAY 1 OF 30

Hey y’all, it’s Seph Schlueter, and I’m so excited to bring you today’s Scripture from Psalm 96!

The whole Psalm is so inspiring, but I want to focus on verses 2-3:

Psalm 96: 2-3: “Sing to the Lord, bless His name; tell of His salvation from day to day. Declare His glory among the nations, His marvelous works among all the peoples!” (ESV).

I was recently in a meeting, and right at the beginning, my friend leading the meeting took us on a tangent where he passionately explained “Banana Ball” (basically a variant of baseball) and the team “The Savannah Bananas” (look it up; it’s actually wild!). He was so pumped up talking about it and how fun the sport was and how much he wanted us to all go to a game sometime. I found his enthusiasm contagious, and soon I was getting excited about something I hadn’t really known anything about prior to this meeting. I started looking up highlight reels and telling more people about it.

I soon had a realization: this is how evangelization works! I think sometimes we over-complicate it or stress ourselves out thinking we have to have all the answers or the perfect approach before we ever share the Gospel with someone. But I think it’s actually really simple: we just share what we’re excited for. If God has really saved our lives, if He’s really set us free, if He really has been so good to us…why wouldn't we be even more ready to share about that than we are about whatever else might excite us (movies, music, sports, politics, etc)? The Gospel means “Good News”. And it really is the best news we could possibly have, so why wouldn’t we be bursting at the seams to share it?

That’s what David is exhorting us to do in this Psalm. Has He saved you? Tell people about it! When people casually ask “How’s it going?”, not really expecting a response, tell them “Man, I'm so blessed. God has been so good to me!” and then share how He’s been good!

Have you seen Him do amazing things in your life? Share it! When someone asks “What’s new?”, give testimony to where you've seen God work!

What if you’re struggling to really see the Gospel as “Good News”? Maybe you don’t feel excitement or enthusiasm for it. My encouragement is to do what David says here: sing to the Lord and bless His name. There’s something about worship that helps us remember. Helps move our hearts again. Helps remind us of how good He really is, and how worthy He is to be talked about to everyone we know!

I wrote a song called “Counting My Blessings” to help me in those moments. When I take a moment to pause and reflect on how many ways God has actually blessed me in my life, all of a sudden my desire to celebrate Him and share what He has done exponentially increases! Try it out!

Take this verse and ask God to give you the grace to really live it, to share of His goodness, and to sing and bless His name.

About this Plan

Heart of Worship: 30 Days to Deeper Praise

We're called to worship God, but how do we do that well? And what does it look like? Join us for the next 30 days as we study the act of worship and praise throughout Scripture alongside Elevation Worship, Matt Maher, CAIN, Matthew West, Bethel Music, and more! Our prayer is that you would feel on fire for the Lord and He would be magnified through your worship at the end of these 30 days.
