Heart of Worship: 30 Days to Deeper Praise

DAY 3 OF 30

Hi there, it’s Leanna Crawford and I am excited to bring you today’s Scripture from Psalm 95:6 (NIV).

“Come let us worship and bow down, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.”

Have you ever experienced that moment of pure surrender in worship? Maybe it was a Sunday morning church service, or possibly at a summer camp around the fire. It’s that moment that feels overwhelming, hard to explain, but the presence of God is all around you. Maybe it brought you to tears or maybe you were jumping with joy. These moments are beautifully impactful and can be life-changing, but what about all the other times when you don’t feel like worshipping?

One thing that stands out to me in this verse is that it’s talking about a physical posture, like bowing and kneeling before the Lord. The author of this Psalm (most likely King David) recognized that worship isn’t always about how we’re feeling in the moment but sometimes about the posture we have when we’re worshipping the Creator. If I only worship when I feel like it, I wouldn’t be worshipping very often.

In my high school youth group, I remember my pastor talking about worshipping in church, and specifically about what posture we carry when we worship. He said there is nothing magical about lifting our hands in worship, but that when you do, it can be an act of surrender and help your heart get to a place of worship. Similar to a child asking their parent to lift them up, we are asking our Heavenly Father to lift us up. Lifting our hands is a position of vulnerability and humility. We are recognizing our own weakness and need for a Savior. Similarly, when we kneel or bow down, we are doing so in reverence of the King of all creation.

Sometimes our physical postures help us get to a place of worship. It might feel a little awkward, but I want to encourage you to spend some time kneeling before the Lord today. Maybe turn on a worship song that you love and just sing. Maybe right now you’re running around, and life is crazy, and you’ve barely had time to read this. I want to encourage you, that even in the busy seasons of life, to find time to worship. On the way to school, work or running errands - it could just be taking the time to say “Thank You God for breath in my lungs, I give today to You and I praise You. Fix my eyes on You in all I do today. Let every word I say today praise You. Amen!”

Whatever you do, may you worship Him fully - even in your posture today.

About this Plan

Heart of Worship: 30 Days to Deeper Praise

We're called to worship God, but how do we do that well? And what does it look like? Join us for the next 30 days as we study the act of worship and praise throughout Scripture alongside Elevation Worship, Matt Maher, CAIN, Matthew West, Bethel Music, and more! Our prayer is that you would feel on fire for the Lord and He would be magnified through your worship at the end of these 30 days.
