God's Design for MenSample

Purposeful Men
What gets you out of bed in the morning?
And once you’ve moved past the dad-joke answer of “My alarm!” and stopped chuckling to yourself, try to answer it for real:
What gets you out of bed in the morning?
However you answer the question, it speaks to the issue of purpose—what is your motivation to get things done in life?
Without a sense of purpose, men flounder and fail. We were created as men by God on purpose to do good things, like walk with Him, love others, work, serve, and make this world a better place (Ephesians 2:10). These things drive us to do good and give our lives meaning.
Today’s verses show us that whatever we are doing in life, we are supposed to do it as if we were doing it personally for the Lord Himself.
That’s a pretty convincing motivator!
I’m not primarily getting up in the morning for my family, my boss, my company, or the government, as much as they all may play a part.
Ultimately, everything I do as a man, I do for Jesus my Savior who loves me and died for me.
This gives a man’s life tremendous purpose.
Jesus, the perfect Man, did everything He did on earth primarily for His Father in Heaven (John 5:19). He lived a life of devotion to Him and worked hard every day in a life of purpose that found its full meaning in making the Father happy.
Men are at their best when they work, play, serve, and bless as if they were doing it for the Lord Himself. Doing this well fills every task with determination and every day with resolve. The world would be a very different place if all men stepped up in this way!
God’s design for men is that they will work hard to live a life of meaning and purpose, finding it first and foremost in living as unto the Lord. When we do this, a man finds all the meaning and purpose he will ever need.
Prayer: Father, thank You for giving my life purpose! I pray that You help me see and understand that purpose more and more, even opening up new doors for me to learn more about what You have called me to and who You have made me to be! Amen.
Reflection: If you had to summarize your “God-given purpose” in life as a man, how would you do that in a sentence or two? Write it out and share it with a brother in the Lord that you trust, asking him to help you clarify and edit it until you have something that resonates. Place it somewhere that you can see it regularly, and every time you do, pray into it.
About this Plan

The term "toxic masculinity" has been used to call out men's sinful behavior, but it doesn’t inspire men to greater things. We need a vision of masculinity that is good, biblical, and Christ-like—God’s ideal design for men, all that He wanted them to be when He created them as men on purpose. Jesus, the perfect Man, shows us a perfect picture of what masculinity was meant for. God’s Son shows us what men should be aiming at, and God’s Word shows us how to get there in this 30-day devotional! Written by Chris Walker.
