30 Days in ProverbsSample

Some days my biggest battle isn’t what’s going on around me—it’s what’s happening in my own head. Proverbs 12 reminds me to guard my thoughts. As someone who lives a lot in my mind, running through scenarios that may never happen, replaying conversations, or dreaming of what could be, this advice is gold. Because in contrast, when I let my thoughts go unchecked, they have a way of pulling me into anxiety.
Over the years, God has been teaching me to protect my mind. I go back again and again to Colossians 3:2: “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth" (ESV). For me, this looks like filling my head with Scripture, stepping into moments of worship, and intentionally replacing fear-driven thoughts with the truth of who He is. When I let Him take over my thought life, peace follows.
This chapter also reminds us of the power of our words. Words can heal or they can wound—they carry that much weight. And here’s the connection: our words often flow out of our thoughts. If our minds are filled with worry, criticism, or negativity, that’s usually what spills out. But if our thoughts are centered on Christ, then our words will reflect life, encouragement, and grace.
There’s also wisdom here about being prudent—thinking carefully before we act or speak. In a world that celebrates being the loudest voice in the room, Proverbs 12 reminds us that true strength is found in quiet discernment and steady faithfulness.
And woven throughout the chapter is this theme of kindness. Proverbs tells us again and again that when we live generously—when we show compassion, when we give to others—it pleases the Lord and brings a deep satisfaction to our own souls. Kindness is one of those things that never runs dry.
So today, maybe take a moment to reflect: What thoughts have been filling your mind lately? What words have been flowing out of them? And how can you use your voice and your kindness to bring life to someone else? Proverbs 12 is an invitation to live with wisdom, guard your mind, and let your life reflect the goodness of God.

About this Plan

Proverbs is one of the most practical books in the Bible. It’s not a list of promises to lean on, but principles to live by—wisdom for our words, our work, our relationships, and our choices. Over the next 30 days, we’ll walk through Proverbs one chapter at a time, uncovering what it looks like to live wisely in the everyday.
