The Promised Land

DAY 14 OF 30

DAY FOURTEEN — God Gives His Law (Part 2)

The second half of the Ten Commandments shifts the focus to loving others. These commands are intensely practical: honor your parents, value and protect human life, keep marriage pure, respect the property of others, speak truthfully, and resist the pull of envy. God cares not only about our relationship with Him but also about the way we treat the people He created in His image.

God’s people were to be marked by justice, compassion, and integrity, living in such a way that the surrounding nations could see what God’s righteousness looks like in daily life. To honor these commands was to reflect His character: faithful, truthful, generous, and life-giving.

These commands still shine a light on what love looks like in action. Jesus Himself summed up the law with two great commands: love God with all that you are, and love your neighbor as yourself. When we refrain from lying, when we keep our promises, when we practice contentment instead of jealousy, we are demonstrating that God’s love has taken root in us.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

  • Which of these commands challenges you the most right now?
  • How does obeying God’s law help you love others well?
  • Where can you practice God’s love in a tangible way this week?

About this Plan

The Promised Land

THE PROMISED LAND and Milk and Honey Productions have created this plan to help individuals and groups engage the story of Exodus and Leviticus in a fresh way. In this 30-day devotional, you’ll see clips from THE PROMISED LAND, read passages of Scripture, and reflect on questions that connect Israel’s journey to your own walk of faith. Through humor, reverence, and honesty, we’ll discover that God uses ordinary, imperfect people to accomplish His extraordinary purposes.
