They had received special instruction from God, they had been offered a relationship with God, and they had the visible sign of circumcision. Yet, while they boasted of their special relationship to God, they chose continual disobedience. And they would sit in judgment of the non-Jewish people around them (the Bible calls all non-Jewish people' Gentiles').
