God-Sized Dreams: A 30-Day Journey of Faith and Courage

DAY 25 OF 30

What Every God-Sized Dream Ultimately Points Our Hearts To

I’m sitting on the back deck of a restaurant overlooking the ocean. Orange and scarlet clouds drift toward the waves as music plays in the background. I close my eyes and in that most beautiful of places, that happiest of moments, my heart also feels an ache—a longing I can’t quite name.

Have you ever felt the same?

God-sized dreams make me feel that way, too.

They make the veil between heaven and earth feel thinner until it seems we can almost touch the other side.

That’s what every God-sized dream ultimately points our hearts to:

Home.

Beyond this world.

Past the suffering.

Into the glory.

Jennifer Camp says, "You know how that heart of yours aches for something to grasp a hold of? How it yearns for discovery of identity, claiming of passion, awakening to adventure? You spend a lot of your life trying to figure out who you are.

You look for people—community, family, friends—to live life with. You gradually, on a timetable all your own, grow in courage and willingness to heed those whispers in your heart from that God of yours who loves you, who adores you, who waits for you with joy and excitement, who calls you his own.

You have within you a dream placed on your heart by God—a dream perfectly sized and created just for you to step into. It is the beginning of you, the start of you seeing God more fully, the opportunity for you to experience God more completely."

We long to be settled where we are, and yet I believe we’re made to live with a bit of longing. I call it “divine discontent.” It’s a restlessness within us that whispers, “You’re not home yet.”

At its best, that longing leads us closer to Jesus. Those aching-happy moments point us to the incompleteness of who we are, of how we live—how even at its very best this life is not enough to fully satisfy us.

Your truest God-sized dream will not happen until you step from this life to the next. Every dream until then is just a preview, a shadow of the glory of the One who places those dreams in your heart.

What does this mean? Seek to see him in your God-sized dreams. And realize that even the best, most beautiful dream can’t take his place. Not even if it comes true beyond your wildest imagination. There will always be a part of you that longs for something more.

Rather than resisting this or feeling guilty about it, embrace it. See it for what it is: the wooing of your heart by the One who wants it for all eternity.

He is the longing you can’t name, the desire you can’t satisfy, the whisper in those beautiful moments that dares you to believe “the best is yet to be.”

Because the best really is yet to be.

For you.

For me.

Forever.

Go Deeper

Read Revelation 21:1-7 to get a clearer vision of your forever home with God.

God, sometimes my heart aches to be home with you. Thank you for those moments when I long for more than this life. Help me to use them as reminders of what really matters and opportunities to draw closer to you. You are my ultimate dream come true. Amen.

What’s one truth you want to remember?

What’s the next small step you’ll take?
