God-Sized Dreams: A 30-Day Journey of Faith and Courage

DAY 3 OF 30

What If You Don’t Know Your God-Sized Dream?

As people begin to chatter online about their God-sized dreams, I notice a quieter conversation taking place, too. It slips into my inbox through emails, finds its way to the comment sections on my blog, and is even whispered over the phone by friends in my real life.

Everywhere I hear this same question: What if I don’t know what my God-sized dream is right now? If that’s you as you’re beginning this journey, then know you’re not alone—lots of other people are with you.

And even if you’re totally clear about your God-sized dream right now, there may be a time when you’re not as sure.

So let me lean in and share words you need to hear now or that you can tuck away into your heart for later: You really do have a God-sized dream.

Because all God-sized dreams are ultimately just this: a desire for more of what God has for you.

Some of us have specific ways we want to experience that in our lives, like a particular calling or project. But really, at the heart of all of those things is the same ultimate goal . . . to make life an intimate adventure with God.

In many ways, God-sized dreaming is more about an attitude than an action. It’s living with an ongoing yes to whatever God asks of you.

It means choosing faith over fear.

It means moving forward instead of holding back.

It means believing God can accomplish his purposes for your life—no matter how hard things are right now.

Jesus said the two most important things in life are this: love God, love people (Mark 12:30–31). That’s true of every God-sized dream. So if you’re not sure what words or goals to put to your dream yet, start there. Simply say, “My dream is to grow in my love for God and people.”

As you go through the following days, you may get more details about what that means in your life. Or it might stay vague. Either one is okay. You might discover you have one dream that stands out or lots of different ideas. That’s okay too.

Where we’re going is more about the journey than the destination. Even those of us who think we know where God is leading us are probably going to be surprised where we end up. (Yes, I speak from experience on that one!)

So will you take this journey with Jesus, even if you don’t know exactly where it's leading to in your life? I can promise you’ll be heading to somewhere good—because that’s who he is.

Go Deeper

Read 1 Corinthians 2:9-10 and think about a time when God had more in store for you than you could have even imagined.

God, there is so much I don’t know about you and your plans for my life. But I’m certain of this one thing: I want more of you and whatever you have for me. I pray you will lead me forward through your Spirit. I’m excited about going on a new adventure with you! Amen.

What’s one truth you want to remember?

What’s the next small step you’ll take?
