Servant of All!

DAY 1 OF 3

First Day!

If we were created in the image of the ultimate servant, then why do we find it so hard to serve? It’s because our fleshly, sinful nature is selfish. It’s easy to constantly think about ourselves, what we want, and how we are going to attain pleasure. Even as a Christian, it’s a struggle to not be subconsciously self-focused at all times.

The selfishness of the flesh is revealed from a very young age. Toddlers constantly repeat “no” as their favorite word and only want to do what they want to do when they want to do it. It's humorous because we act as if we’re much different than toddlers. Sure, we might be educated, have a job, and can look the part, but aren’t we acting just like toddlers, finding fancy ways to say “no” and only doing what we want to do when we want to do it?

Jesus Christ Himself, the One who is worthy of being served at all times, did not physically come on earth to be served but to serve (see Philippians 2:3-11). Since Christ has risen, ascended, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God, we obviously serve Him with all of our hearts, but that’s not my point. My point is that His sacrifice for our lives wasn’t convenient—but that didn’t stop Him from giving His life for you on a cross: serving you, loving you, being beaten and marred more than any man for you (see Isaiah 52:14). Even though He already knew that in many ways you would disregard His sacrifice and still deny Him with your actions, He still gave His life for you, because He loves you.
