Jesus often turns ordinary meals into extraordinary encounters with God. He eats with sinners, multiplies food, and transforms simple gatherings into signs of His love and grace. Meals are central to His mission because they reveal both who He is and how He works.

The New Testament tells us three times: “The Son of Man came…”

“…not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45).

“…to seek and to save the lost” (Luke 19:10).

“…eating and drinking” (Luke 7:34).

The first two explain why Jesus came; the third shows how this is demonstrated through meals. Instead of conquering like a warrior, Jesus builds His Kingdom at the table, inviting the outcast and the overlooked into His presence.

Every meal today is an opportunity to experience and share God’s grace. As Tim Chester writes, “Around the table we offer friendship and celebrate life. Our meals offer a divine moment, an opportunity for people to be seduced by grace into a better life.”

Hospitality isn’t about perfect food or beautiful homes; it’s about an open heart. Jesus invites Himself to your table: “If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me” (Revelation 3:20).

Today, welcome Him in. Let His presence nourish you and prepare you to extend love and grace to those around your table.

Prayer

Jesus, thank You for meeting me in the ordinary moments of life and filling them with Your grace. Teach me to see each meal as a reminder of Your presence and love. Open my heart to welcome You and to share that love with others. May my table reflect the beauty of Your Kingdom.
