Hurting and Not Hiding

DAY 1 OF 4

Let’s Get Real:

The verse we talked about in today’s video reveals something powerful about David’s heart—he knew who God was.

Everything David thought, did, and processed started with this truth:
No matter what I think or feel, God is inexpressibly good.

And not just “good” in theory—but personally good. Infinitely, unshakably, always good.

There were moments in David’s life when he drifted away from that truth. He wrestled with fear, shame, anger, doubt, lust, and disappointment. But even when he wandered, David had already made a decision in his heart: when I get off track, I’m going to fight my way back to the goodness of God. I'm fighting my way back to what I know to be true.

That’s the key. David learned not to hide from God when he was struggling because of who he knew God to be—he got honest with God. He poured out his heart until every emotion, every thought, and every question led him back to the truth that God was still good.

Truth Over Performance:

Sometimes, we feel like we have to keep it all together.
We think if we admit to God or to ourselves what’s really go deeper inside, it’ll make us a bad Christian, or that it may be a sign of weakness.

But here’s the thing: God already knows.
There’s no hiding from Him.

So why pretend?

When you finally believe that God’s goodness is bigger than your weakness, you can stop performing and start being real. You can stop trying to protect your image and start letting Him heal your heart.

God doesn’t want the fake, filtered version of you.
He wants you. The real you. The honest you.

David understood that. And because of it, every moment of pain, confusion, and heartbreak became an opportunity to go deeperwith God—not run from Him.

So, What Now?

Take a minute and ask yourself:

  • Who do I see God to be in my life?
  • Why am I afraid to be honest with Him about certain things in my life?
  • What would it look like to process those things with Him instead of apart from Him?

Remember—God’s not surprised by your feelings.
He just wants to walk through them with you.

The freedom you’re looking for doesn’t come from pretending everything’s fine.
It comes from bringing everything to the One who can handle it.

Then talk to Him about it. Out loud. In your journal. On a walk. Wherever.

Remember—He’s not waiting for you to “get it together.” He’s waiting for you to get real.

Your Challenge Today:

  1. Get honest with God. Tell Him how you actually feel—even if it’s messy.
  2. Remind yourself who He is. HE IS WONDERFUL! ALWAYS!
  3. Let that truth reshape your honesty. When you know He’s good, you’ll stop hiding and start healing.

Prayer You Can Pray:

God, thank You that I don’t have to hide from You.
You already see what’s going on in my heart, and You love me anyway.
Help me to be honest with You, even when it’s hard or uncomfortable.
Remind me that Your goodness is bigger than my feelings and stronger than my struggles.
Walk with me through every part of my heart—and lead me into freedom. Amen.

Bottom Line:

God doesn’t need your perfection—He wants your honesty.
Because when you’re real with Him, that’s where real healing begins.

About this Plan

Hurting and Not Hiding

If God is our healer, how do we navigate hurt? How do we process anger? How do we face sadness? Oftentimes it's hard to be fully honest with God, ourselves, and others. We become fearful of what it says about us if we are supposed to be "trusting God" while still battling doubt. In this 4-day podcast-style devotional, AGT winner Dustin Tavella and his wife dive into what authentic conversations with Jesus can look like. Learning to be honest with God, yourself, and others may be the key to unlocking the growth we desire.
