Hurting and Not HidingSample

Let’s Get Real:
Processing what’s going on inside us can be hard—especially when we’re frustrated, angry, or hurt.
But to process in a healthy way, we have to be willing to change, pivot, and surrender. Basically, we need to be humble enough to let God deal with anything that may be going on in us—just like today’s verse talks about.
Let’s be honest—most of the time when we’re venting or complaining, we’re not actually looking for change… we’re just reporting everything that’s going wrong. And when the situation feels out of our control, we convince ourselves that anger or complaining is all we can do.
Now the point of this devo is learning to be honest in a way that is healthy and productive. So we need to realize that it’s easy to mistake honesty for negativity. It’s easy to blur the line between pouring our hearts out to God and just venting with no desire to grow or heal.
But real honesty—the kind that leads to freedom—comes with hope and humility.
Honesty Over Negativity:
Venting might feel good for a second, but it doesn’t fix anything if we hold on to pride.
When we vent without hope, we get stuck.
When we process with humility, we get healed.
Maybe what keeps us stuck isn’t just the problem itself—but our unwillingness to ask,“God, what do You want to show me in this?”
Sometimes we don’t ask because we don’t want to hear the answer.
Sometimes it’s pride, or fear, or just not wanting to admit that we might have a part to play.
But when we come to God with open hands and a humble heart, everything changes.
God can take the hardest, most painful moments and pull out wisdom, growth, and healing that shape us forever. But He waits for us to invite Him in. And, we can't invite Him into something that we are denying even exists. This is why honesty with humility is key.
Even when something is totally out of your control—someone else’s choices, a loss, or a situation that seems hopeless—there’s still something God can do in you through it.
So, What Now?
Ask God to search your heart like today’s verse says:
“Let us test and examine our ways and return to the Lord.” — Lamentations 3:40
That means saying,“God, help me see ME. Show me what I can do differently. Help me let go of what’s not mine to carry.”
You may not be able to change the situation—but you can let God change you through it.
And that’s where peace begins.
Your Challenge Today:
- Be honest with God—but also be humble.
- When you pour your heart out, ask Him to reveal what He wants to teach you.
- Write down one situation that feels out of your control, and ask God to show you what your next step might be.
Processing with God isn’t about pretending everything’s okay.
It’s about trusting that He’s working, even when it doesn’t look like it.
Prayer You Can Pray:
God, thank You for being patient with me.
Help me be honest, but also humble.
Show me what You want me to see in this situation.
Reveal anything in me that needs to change, and help me let go of what’s not mine to control.
Teach me to process in a way that brings me closer to You. Amen.
Bottom Line:
Healthy processing isn’t just venting—it’s surrendering.
When honesty meets humility, healing begins.

About this Plan

If God is our healer, how do we navigate hurt? How do we process anger? How do we face sadness? Oftentimes it's hard to be fully honest with God, ourselves, and others. We become fearful of what it says about us if we are supposed to be "trusting God" while still battling doubt. In this 4-day podcast-style devotional, AGT winner Dustin Tavella and his wife dive into what authentic conversations with Jesus can look like. Learning to be honest with God, yourself, and others may be the key to unlocking the growth we desire.
