Man vs. Temptation: A Men's Devotional

DAY 7 OF 7

When Men are Tempted

Brothers, as we reach the end of the week, let me provide a brief summary of what we discussed.

We began the week by examining Christ's example. After fasting for forty days, He resisted the devil by knowing and applying Scripture. Christ serves as our ultimate role model, reminding us that Scripture is not merely theoretical knowledge but should be put into action through our faith and trust in God.

The following day, we studied the life of Joseph, who literally fled from Potiphar’s wife. He stated that committing sexual sin is not merely a sin against man, but a sin against God. Although Joseph did not receive immediate rewards for his obedience, he ultimately achieved great success years later when he became the Prime Minister of Egypt.

We followed Joseph's story with the tribulations of Job, a man who faced severe tests when he lost all his possessions and children in a single day. After he triumphed over this initial trial, he was further tested by losing his health. Despite all his suffering, Job remained faithful to God, understanding that his afflictions were not a consequence of sin.

The next day, we examined the story of Daniel, a teenager who was taken from his home to serve a pagan king in a foreign land. Despite the drastic changes in his surroundings, Daniel remained faithful to his God. He refused to defile himself with the customs commonplace in that land.

Yesterday, we explored the life of perhaps the hardest-working apostle, Paul, a Jewish/Roman convert to Christianity. Despite facing numerous challenges—such as being shipwrecked, beaten, and left for dead—he persevered through the trials of his new faith. Paul resisted temptation, completed the good race, and remained faithful to Christ until the end.

As faith pioneers, these men had confidence in God, and their victories over temptation were seen as badges of honor for Christ, strengthening their perseverance and character.

Men should strive to follow their example!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank You for the great pioneers of faith who have demonstrated how to remain true to You, regardless of temptation. Please extend to us Your grace and the presence of the Holy Spirit, as we recognize that we cannot walk this journey alone. Amen.

Reflection: Of all the faithful men we visited this week, which one can you relate to the most? Why do you feel that way, and what lessons can you take away from their life?

About this Plan

Man vs. Temptation: A Men's Devotional

Every man experiences temptation, and you are not alone in your struggles. So how can men resist temptation? While we could search for answers online, the Bible is the most reliable source of truth. This week, we will explore five heroes from Scripture and how they overcame their temptations, learning from them how to rise above our own struggles. Written by Jacque Van Dyk.
