DAY 24 OF 30

Something New Every Day

Sometimes we see the coming day as just another one and welcome it without much excitement. It's a day given to us, and we have the feeling that it will pass just like yesterday did. We move through tasks and routines that happen as time goes by, without valuing the precious treasure we've been given.

From time to time, we should pause and reflect on what the day offers us, starting with the certainty that it is a gift from God. In fact, God's Word reveals how many new things are inside this precious gift given to us from heaven.

One of them is divine mercy. From a human point of view, it must be said that we do not carry an abundance of mercy within us. This means that our mercy (if we have it, and I hope we do!) runs out. We don't always feel like being merciful because we are humanly limited.

The same is not true for our Lord; His Word says: “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22-23, NIV) So, on this day, God's mercy is fully and completely shown in your life. Have you read that “Many are the woes of the wicked, but the Lord’s unfailing love surrounds the person who trusts in him.” (Psalm 32:10, NIV) He expresses His mercy to us every new day.

What new things does this day, and every day, bring to those of us who are children of God? Every day brings its blessings. “Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens.” (Psalm 68:19, NIV) What happens is that sometimes we overlook them because we take them for granted, to the point that we think they are the result of our effort and don't thank God for them as we should.

That is why, aware of this human flaw, the psalmist said to himself: “Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits.” (Psalm 103:1-2, NIV) Because the truth is that we tend to forget that God gives us our daily bread, that His provision comes from heaven. He is the one who gives life and breath to everyone. “For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are his offspring.” (Acts 17:28, NIV)

This day, and every day that we are on this earth, is a gift from God, and we must live them full of gratitude, in the humility of recognizing that we are blessed by Him. For this reason, instead of receiving our day with reluctance, complaints, and dissatisfaction, let's receive it with joy in our hearts, knowing that a gift from heaven has been placed in our hands.

Let us not forget for a moment that our beloved Savior has promised to be with us "always, to the very end of the age." That is the greatest wonder—knowing that we do not start our day in our own strength but in God's, not alone but accompanied by the King of kings and Lord of lords.

“Every day I will praise you and extol your name for ever and ever.” (Psalm 145:2 NIV)
