Bread for the Journey

DAY 26 OF 30

Your Hats

We have heard talk, symbolically, about the "hats" on some people's heads. Their roles in both personal and professional life are many. As an example, we can mention a lawyer who is also a professor, who chairs a committee, who is a candidate for a political position, and who is also a father, husband, etc.

All of us, in one way or another, also wear several hats. And each of us can identify with them because we are very connected to them; they are part of what we do and what we are. However, there are hats that only we, who are children of God through faith in His Son Jesus Christ, wear. We find them mentioned in God's Word, and it is good that we check if we are wearing them correctly, as the Lord has determined.

I want to mention some of them, recognizing that there are many more hats that we, as Christians, should wear. To begin, I must say that we are Christ's ambassadors with the task of telling the world to reconcile with God. We are lamps called to illuminate the world, sheep of the Good Shepherd, members of the body of Christ, useful vessels of honor for God's service, ministers of Christ, and sowers of the good seed. Some hold titles of teachers, pastors, prophets, etc.

But all of us, even when we wear different hats, have the great privilege of having the biggest and most important title: being called children of God. Because of this glorious truth, we share in the unsearchable riches of Christ and in everything God has granted us in Him.

Our responsibility is to carry out our functions in Christ with the awareness of whom we serve and to whom we must give account. Knowing this will help us improve our performance, want to provide better service, and follow the Master's instructions. Let us remember the parable of the talents and strive to exercise our service to the Lord by giving our best and producing fruit for His glory.

What we are and what we do, in all areas of our lives, must be consistent with who we are in Christ. Those around us should see the same in us, no matter which of our hats is in use. If we are parents, let us also be good sowers. If we are children, let us also be obedient to our parents, as we should be to Christ. Everything we are should be connected in our lives, without restrictions of places or people.

May the Lord help us follow Christ's example and live aware of what our calling is in the Lord, what our various roles are, and to carry them out with excellence for His glory and honor.

“In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for special purposes and some for common use. Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work.” (2 Timothy 2:20-21, NIV)

About this Plan

Bread for the Journey

Life is a continuous journey, and every day we take steps on our own unique paths. Some people walk without enough food to sustain them in life. Others are very well-prepared, knowing they need heavenly bread for their survival. In this 30-day plan, we will find words that will sustain us as we move through our daily lives. Let's allow the Lord to sustain us with His Word.
