Watch Your Mouth
In a Few Words:
Have you ever wished you’d stayed quiet… or wanted someone else to just stop talking? We’ve all been there. Sometimes saying nothing is actually the best move—especially when what we might say isn’t helpful or positive. Matthew 12:36–37 tells us that every word we speak is being weighed, and we will give an account for it. That’s huge!
God isn’t just listening for the big stuff—He hears the little things too. Even our offhand jokes, gossip, or “harmless” complaints can leave a mark on others and on our own heart.
But here’s the kicker: it’s not just what we say out loud that matters. Even what we think or dwell on in our hearts counts. Negative thoughts, grudges, or judgmental ideas can be just as powerful as words. Our minds set the stage for our mouths.
Reflection:
What you allow to live inside of you—your thoughts, attitudes, and emotions—will eventually come out through your words.
Challenge:
Choose today to filter your thoughts before they become words. Ask God to help you speak with wisdom, grace, and self-control in every conversation.
