Small Steps Still Count
In today’s reading, Jonah finally does what God asked. It’s not glamorous. His message is short. His motivation may still be mixed. But Jonah takes a step—and God works through it.
As you read Jonah 3:1–5, notice how the text emphasizes God speaking again: “Then the word of the LORD came to Jonah a second time.” God’s patience is part of Jonah’s story. God doesn’t discard Jonah—He recommissions him.
Then watch Jonah’s obedience. It’s hesitant, minimalistic, and maybe reluctant. And yet God uses it to transform a city.
Now read Acts 9:10–19 through the same lens. Ananias also hesitates. He fears Saul. He protests. But he still obeys—and through that obedience, God launches Paul’s ministry.
Both passages show this truth:
God does world-changing things through people who feel hesitant but choose to obey anyway.
As you read, let the text free you from the myth that calling requires confidence. God asks for willingness, not perfection.
What to look for in the reading: Notice how God honors small steps—Jonah’s imperfect sermon and Ananias’s trembling obedience.
Reflection
- What surprised you about how quickly Nineveh responds—or how God works through Jonah’s minimal effort?
- What do Jonah and Ananias teach you about God’s patience with hesitant obedience?
Application
Choose one simple act of obedience today—something small but faithful—and do it.
