Be Strong & Courageous

DAY 2 OF 4

Your Spiritual Inheritance

“Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them.” – Joshua 1:6 (NIV)

Joshua wasn’t just stepping into a promise for himself — he was leading others into their spiritual inheritance.

An inheritance is something of value that is passed down to you, often after family members or very close friends have passed away. Your grandparents or parents might leave you money in their will, or your grandad might leave you his precious watch, or some people even get left a house. These things can all be an incredible help in life.

But just like Joshua, you have an inheritance which came to you when Jesus died and rose again. Jesus’ once-for-all-time act opened the door for all who believe and choose to follow Him to walk into their spiritual inheritance. Through this inheritance, we receive incredible things like eternal life, peace, purpose, and a new identity, to name a few.

When you stand firm in your faith, share your story, or invite a friend to church or youth group, you’re helping others step into the promises of God. Part of your inheritance is to see friends and family meet Jesus, fearlessly follow Him, believing nothing is impossible with God. The greatest inheritance of all is to love and walk with Jesus every day of our lives.

Joshua had to believe that there was an inheritance for him to walk into; he had to trust that what God had for him was part of his future and his identity as a child of God. You have a rich inheritance to walk into and receive.

Questions:

  • What would it look like for you today to spend some time thinking about the inheritance you now have in Christ?
  • How does that inheritance affect the way you interact with the world around you?

About this Plan

Be Strong & Courageous

In this devotional, we want to take a snapshot of the beginning of Joshua's journey to be strong and courageous as he led God’s people into the Promised Land. The truth is that we will all have individual promises from God over our lives. Has God called you to something? Is there a task that you are set apart to do? How can we live a life that is strong and courageous for God and with God? Join us as we look at the first chapter of the book of Joshua.
