Exams Never End!

DAY 2 OF 6

QUALITY ASSURANCE

Certification of quality assurance systems according to international ISO 9000 standards is a common practice for companies and organizations today. The highlights of this program are:

  1. A quality manual with the procedures to be followed.
  2. The choice of a certification body that verifies the application of the procedures.
  3. An inspection, called an "audit", for verification before certification can be granted.
  4. Additional audits are to be conducted at regular intervals to maintain certification.

A certified company or organization offers more guarantees to its clients. We can think of certification as an example of the approval mentioned in 2 Timothy 2:15. Let's see the above four points in this light.

The Quality Manual

The "procedures" to be applied to obtain approval are found in the Bible. The entire Bible serves this purpose (2 Timothy 3:16,17; Luke 24:25-27). To implement the "procedures", you first need to know them. That is why Paul urges Timothy to read and study the Scriptures (1 Timothy 4:13-16).

The Certifier

A believer must choose to be approved by God, not by men (Galatians 1:10). God's evaluation takes into account not only the outward appearance but above all the heart (1 Samuel 16:6,7). To be approved, it's important to prepare to meet the actual requirements, not just to impress at first glance. Some individuals rely on self-certification, but this "approval" is worthless (2 Corinthians 10:18).

Preparing for the audit

Our key verse speaks of "a worker who does not need to be ashamed " (2 Timothy 2:15 NIV). At that time, workers were, above all, agricultural laborers. We should be ready to work hard in the Lord's field, and know how to learn from others. Too many people desire to be leaders instead of apprentices (Philippians 2:22). We are assessed in practice, not theory. Passing tests can lead to us being assigned to positions with more responsibility (1 Timothy 3:10).

Maintaining certification over time

There is no point in achieving certification without continuing to practice quality procedures. Paul's concern was to keep himself approved (1 Corinthians 9:24-27). We should look forward to the day when the Lord will examine our work. The exams for believers never end because there is always room for improvement.

About this Plan

Exams Never End!

The title of 'Exams Never End', a play by Italian playwright Eduardo De Filippo, has become a motto that applies to life, not just school. By examining Biblical examples and comparing them to quality certification, we will see how faith is tested and strengthened through various challenges, including the trial by fire, the test of waiting, and the test of endurance. Finally, we will see the importance of daily self-examination in maintaining God-approved behavior and growing spiritually.
