Parental Responsibilities

DAY 1 OF 5

God Is the Foundation

Raising children begins with understanding where they come from. In Genesis 1:26–28, we see that children are part of God’s blessing, His design, and His assignment. Before God ever spoke about parenting principles, He established identity, purpose, and dominion. When He commanded mankind to “be fruitful and multiply,” He was not only talking about the ability to give birth but also the privilege of raising children who carry His image on the earth.

Many people can have children, but raising godly children requires partnership with God. Psalm 127:1 reminds us, “Except the Lord builds the house, they labour in vain that build it.” Parenting without God produces exhaustion; parenting with God produces fruit.

This is why every parent must begin with surrender. Parenting becomes overwhelming when we try to do it alone, depending on our strength, our methods, or our limited understanding. But when we start with God, we acknowledge that He is the true owner of every child. We are stewards, not owners. Children may come through us, but they come from Him.

For parents waiting on God for the fruit of the womb, your story is also included in God’s plan. The same God who visited Sarah and Hannah is still faithful. You're not barren; you are waiting. And God honours waiting. As you trust Him, prepare your heart: you'll one day raise children who glorify Him.

Beginning with God means placing your home, your children, and even your future children into His hands. It means praying over them consistently, asking God for wisdom, and submitting your decisions to His Word. In a world filled with confusion and darkness, your greatest parenting strategy is to let God lead.

When God becomes the foundation, He shapes your vision, strengthens your heart, and guides your steps. With Him, you're not alone in raising the next generation.

Reflection Questions

  1. What part of your parenting—or future parenting—have you been trying to handle without God?
  2. What would it look like to let God be the foundation of your home this week?

About this Plan

Parental Responsibilities

Raising godly children is one of the highest responsibilities God gives to parents. Children are gifts from Him, but He also calls us to nurture, train, and guide them with intentionality. This plan explores how to build a Christ-centred home, model a godly lifestyle, lead children to Jesus, and train them with love and discipline. Whether you are already a parent, waiting on God for children, or influencing young people in any capacity, these five days will strengthen your vision and equip you with biblical wisdom.
